To begin each academic year three orientation programs are featured
welcoming undergraduate, graduate and international students to
Johns Hopkins University. These assemblies are casual, friendly
and full of first time introductions to contacts from all the major
organizations on campus.
NOTE: Orientation is mandatory for graduate and international
students.
Undergraduate Orientation
Undergraduate orientation is a week long program that makes the
transition to college as smooth as possible. At Johns Hopkins University,
a new web site is constructed each academic year to aid students
in planning before and after arriving at JHU.
Graduate Orientation
Graduate orientation is a shared welcome between the Krieger School
of Arts and Sciences, G.W. C. Whiting School of Engineering and
the student's chosen department. Graduate orientation is the same
casual affair as undergraduate orientation but differs as all housing
is off-campus and the course work begins immediately. The GRO (Graduate
Representative Organization) hosts a social outing the evening graduate
orientation takes place for family/friends.
International Student Orientation
A short program takes place directly after graduate orientation
specifically designed for international students. The staff of the
OISSS hosts presentation that highlights visa, tax and social security
issues. A stimulating question/answer period is included in this
mandatory session. A picnic follows where students can greet
and meet from all corners of the globe.
