The Johns Hopkins University (JHU) Radiation Safety Programs rely on training, good laboratory practices, engineering controls and compliance State and Federal regulation to prevent contamination of the area or the Worker. However, the danger of spills of radioactive materials exists and the University has procedures for such emergencies. The emergency procedures are included in the John Hopkins medical Institutions (JHMI) Radiation Safety Manual and the JHU (Homewood) Radiation Safety Manual.

NOTE:
Graduate students using radioactive materials must be trained in their usage. Contact the Radiation Safety Office to schedule a training session. Researchers using radioactive materials are directed to contain and clean up spills that involve any radiation hazard to personnel. The laboratory or work area should be vacated and the RSO notified.
