Much of the research conducted at universities nationwide is funded by external sources such as government agencies, private agencies and foundations through various sponsored agreements. These agreements restrict research projects by the scope of work and/or the types and levels of expenditures. Additionally, there are reporting requirements. The following pages will be a guide to processing and reviewing these sponsored project agreements. The two main administrative categories covered here are pre-award (the proposal stages) and post-award (the funding stages).

The Arts and Sciences Business and Research Administration (BARA) is the primary point of contact for all sponsored projects in the School of Arts and Sciences. Research Accounting in the Controller's Office is the Central Administration office that monitors, reports, invoices, and closes out Sponsored accounts.
