The JHU Benefits program is administered through the various Benefits Service Centers. The Homewood Benefits Service Center is in the Eastern Building, 1101 East 33rd Street, Suite D100; phone 410-516-2000.

The Benefit Plans apply to various groups of individuals, STAFF (senior and support), FACULTY/APPOINTED positions, and BARGAINING UNIT members. STUDENT benefits are provided through the Registrar’s Office.

Benefits Services (x62000) is available to answer both general and specific queries about full and part-time staff and faculty benefits. BENEFITS FOR STAFF MEMBERS

BENEFITS FOR BARGAINING UNIT
KSAS has a limited number of Bargaining Unit members, primarily working in labs. Their benefits are defined in the Union Contract which may be obtained from Pat Day of Employee Relations, x68661. TEMPORARY, CASUAL AND LIMITED EMPLOYEES
Temporary, casual and limited time employees* (Position Categories – see Tools section below) are covered by Workers' Compensation and may be eligible for Unemployment Insurance (depending on work history). The university also makes the required FICA contributions into their Social Security Accounts. In addition, limited time employees may purchase medical benefits at the unsubsidized rate.

EDUCATION ASSISTANCE BENEFITS
The University offers education assistance to provide its faculty and staff and their families with a broad range of educational opportunities and to provide the institution an opportunity to train and develop its faculty and staff.

The following is a summary of the education assistance programs that are available. For details about the individual programs, please refer to the benefits home page.

Staff Development – University full-time and part-time faculty and staff are eligible to participate in work-related training courses provided through the Center for Talent Management and Organization Development.

Tuition Remission – Full-time JHU faculty and staff, their spouses and dependent children as well as retirees and their spouses, and same-sex domestic partners and their dependent children may participate in this plan, which pays for the courses and workshops offered through JHU’s academic schools. Outside courses, conferences and seminars may be covered for employees if they are required to maintain a professional certification or license for the job and the certification or license is regulated by the state licensing board. Please refer to the benefits section for additional information if the course does not meet both requirements.

Tuition Reimbursement Plan for Faculty and Staff in Outlying Areas – pays up to $5,250 for outside part-time credit coursework for full-time faculty and staff members living and working outside the Baltimore or Washington metropolitan areas. Spouses and dependent children are not eligible.

Tuition Reimbursement for Bargaining Unit Members – pays up to $500 for outside credit and non-credit courses, not available through the University, which will promote or enhance employees’ career development. Spouses and dependent children are not eligible.

Tuition Reimbursement for Undergraduate Studies – pays up to $2,000 per calendar year for outside undergraduate coursework (freshman through senior year). Spouses and dependent children are not eligible.

Tuition Grant Plan – provides payment of full-time undergraduate studies for dependent children of full-time faculty and staff, dependent children of retirees and same-sex domestic partners. Spouses are not eligible.
