The university reimburses faculty, staff and students for approved travel and business expenses when incurred while conducting university business. Non-university employees may be reimbursed for certain expenses related to appropriate university business.

Travel advances are available to university faculty, staff and students when necessary for cash expenditures that cannot be covered by other means. Travel advances are not available to non-employees. Travel advances should be accounted for within two weeks of return of trip.

Individuals traveling on university business are expected to exercise the same care in incurring expenses as a prudent person traveling for personal reasons.

Johns Hopkins Travel Center
The Johns Hopkins Travel Center serves the travel needs of the University and Health Systems. The new office is located in the Johns Hopkins Hospital at 600 N. Wolfe Street, Nelson Building Room 136 - just off the main lobby. The following information about the JH Travel Center is provided for your convenience:

Council Travel
Council Travel has a branch office in the Homewood Bookstore in the basement of Gilman Hall. Please note, their services are limited to faculty and student travel.

Internet Sources
There are also an increasing number of internet options for web-savvy travelers. Two of the better, more established sites are Travelocity and Cheap Tickets.
You can search for the best fares, the most direct route, or several other options and can find some great deals.

Ivy Plus Travel Group
The University is a member of the Ivy Plus Travel Group. The Ivy Plus Travel Group is a collaborative effort of several colleges and universities with similar travel patterns to provide cost savings based on joint purchasing power.

As a member of the Group, University travelers are able to utilize the Ivy Plus Hotel Directory. The Hotel Directory includes specially negotiated rates at 16 hotels in 10 cities. These rates are up to 40% below standard corporate rate. When making reservations always ask for the Ivy Plus rate. Some hotels provide additional amenities including complimentary newspaper or free use of the health club. Some hotels provide last room availability during high occupancy seasons. The Directory includes rates at hotels in the following cities: Baltimore, Boston, Cambridge, Chicago, Ithaca, Los Angeles, New Haven, New York City, Philadelphia, and San Francisco.

The University is also a member of the State Universities of America Travel Association. As a member, University travelers are entitled to discounted rates at many hotels across the country.
