Procedure
Topics:

Requests for invitations for students who are enrolled at the graduate level at other institutions to visit JHU and do research in conjunction with members of a specific department are made by way of a letter addressed to Dean Gregory Ball.   This request must include a current c.v. and an appointment form. (See appointment form under tools) The request must include the student’s current enrollment status, the name of his/her institution, what work he/she will be doing, the name of the faculty member who is sponsoring his/her visit, and the duration (exact period of the appointment).   In addition, information on salary, stipends and benefits must be identified.

Dean Ball will approve the request and Lisa Jia, his Assistant, will generate a letter of invitation that will be signed and distributed to the appropriate offices.

If the Visiting Student needs a visa, the department sends the appropriate form to the Office of International Student and Scholar Services (OISSS).

For all visiting students, additional information (including J-Card) can be found at the following section of the Student Employment Services website:

Volunteers are individuals who perform services for their own benefit, in furtherance of the humanitarian, educational or service missions of the School and/or to gain professional experience through their service to the School. Volunteers are uncompensated and provide services without expectation of pay. NOTE: Volunteers normally have no affiliation with the Johns Hopkins University. However, under special circumstances, certain Johns Hopkins employees may serve as volunteers when their paid work is substantively different from his/her work as a volunteer.
