The Student Systems and Educational Technologies (SSET) department at Johns Hopkins is offering you an opportunity to do ISIS up right.
SSET announces a contest in which you, the students, are invited to submit your vision for a new ISIS. If any part of your design is chosen, it will be used in the actual Johns Hopkins online environment and will go live in fall 2010. |
Easy Guidelines
Your suggestions for redesigning ISIS may be as minor or as dramatic as you like. You can make small changes to ISIS as it currently stands, or you can scrap the whole thing and start from scratch. Maybe you'd like to change the ISIS layout. Perhaps you want to change the way users navigate ISIS. Maybe you'd even like to include content in ISIS that it doesn't currently carry. You hold the reins.
Proposals can take one of three forms:
- Submit prose. Give a detailed verbal description of what you would change about ISIS and why, or describe how you would design ISIS from the ground up. Your submission can include descriptions of the design elements, of how your new navigation would flow, or of the content itself. If you wish, you may illustrate your words with few graphics.
- Create a picture . Photoshop your solution. Submit graphics that illustrate how the ISIS Web site would look under your redesign. You might submit before-and-after screenshots. You might submit a series of screenshots that show how you would get from the ISIS homepage to, say, the description for a course in the Spring 2010 course schedule. Your pictures may be accompanied by some verbal explanation.
- Write your own code. Create part of an ISIS environment. Your code can simulate how the new ISIS would look and feel. You can create a code to allow the user to check his or her financial aid status. You might create a whole new way to register for a class.
Any combination of the above is acceptable and welcome.
