Registration & Policies

Important Dates:

  • Monday, January 4 - Friday, January 22, 2010. Most classes meet during this three week period, but we do offer some two-week and one-week courses. Please see the course description for specific course dates.

  • Monday, January 18 - Martin Luther King Jr. Day Holiday. Classes do not meet, except B'More Program.
  • B'More Program: January 16 - 22. This program meets on Martin Luther King Day.

Academic Exploration courses: Registration Information

On-line and in-person registration for Intersession 2010 Academic Exploration courses will be available for all Homewood undergraduate students beginning on Monday, December 7th through Wednesday, January 6th. In-person registration is at the Office of the Registrar in Garland Hall between 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM.

Students taking classes at Homewood may register for a maximum of 3 credits using the on-line registration system.Independent Study registration must be in-person at the Office of the Registrar.

Academic Exploration courses: Add, Drop, Withdraw

During Intersession, you can register, add, drop or withdraw using the online system.There are no adviser approvals for Homewood undergraduates within the deadline dates below.

Deadline Dates - (two-credit courses)

Wednesday, January 6th Last day to register/add an Intersession course
Monday, January 11th Last day to drop without a "W" on academic record
Wednesday, January 13th Last day to withdraw with a "W" on the academic record

Deadline Dates - (one-credit courses)

Day 2 of the class Last day to add, instructor'spermission is required
Day 3 of the class Last day to drop without a "W" on the academic record
Day 4 of the class Last day to withdraw with a "W" on the academic record

The Experiential Learning courses/trips are designed to provide you with an intensive in-class experience followed by a trip allowing you to explore the career field of choice up close.

Intersession 2010 offers Programs Abroad in Accra, Ghana, Florence, Italy, and Galapagos Islands, Ecuador.

 

For Research or Independent Study During Intersession

Pick up an Undergraduate Registration Form and Independent/Research Form from the Registrar's Office.

Arts and Sciences and Engineering students must have the approval signature of their faculty sponsor. As per the 2009-2010 Undergraduate Student Handbook: With faculty sponsorship, up to three credits may be earned for research in Intersession.

Academic Policies

Intersession is a period of about three weeks in January set aside for voluntary activity on the part of both faculty and students. Participation is encouraged but not required.

Courses and activities are open to any Hopkins undergraduate who was enrolled in the previous fall semester. Students may earn up to 3 credits during intersession.

Students do not have the option to choose how they will be graded in intersession; most courses are S/U. Study Abroad and language courses are offered for a letter grade. Please refer to the course description for the grading system that applies to your specific academic exploration course.

Financial Policies

Tuition is free for undergraduate students who were enrolled full-time in the previous fall semester. Students who do not meet this criteria are charged tuition at a per-credit rate of $1305.

Accessing On-line Registrar Services for Registration

Before Friday, December 4th , to prepare for registration, you must take care of the following:

  • Check to see if you have holds. If you see the word "Alerts" in red above the toolbar, click to see what is required to release the hold(s).
  • Select Intersession 2010 and search for courses. Add to your cart to store your classes until registration begins (under Academic Info).

On Monday, December 7th:

  • Add your courses from My Cart (click the Register button).
  • Add courses from the Search Results page.
  • Drop undesired courses.

Follow the directions below to access ISIS for Students.

Please note: The system will automatically log you out after 5 minutes of inactivity. If this happens, you will need to log in again to complete whatever transactions you wish to process.

  • Go to http://my.jhu.edu.
  • Go to Welcome Guest! [Click here to login].
  • Enter JHED ID and password.
  • Click on the Students tab at the top.
  • Click on "Registration Information: under Student Sidebar on the left.
  • Click on Go Right to Log-In
  • Click Sign In.
  • Under Academic Info/My Class Schedule:
    • Check your course schedule for conflicts
    • Click on Weekly Calendar.
  • IMPORTANT STEP: Print your Enrollment Summary (Control P) for reference and receipt.
  • Logout and close your browser.
