Getting a sense of the new system--demonstrations

Introduction (updated August 2006)

To get a sense of the look and feel of the new SAP software system at Johns Hopkins and to appreciate some of its functionality in several areas, the HopkinsOne staff have begun recording demonstrations using a university-owned software called Elluminate.

Elluminate allows users to view the demonstrations--seeing actual screen and cursor movements within the system while hearing a demonstrator desribe what is happening--at any time over the Internet. The software also allows users to start and stop the demonstrations.
Elluminate Live! allows you to watch a web based demo of the new SAP system at Johns Hopkins when you want to. You can pause, rewind or fast forward the demo using control buttons on the top left of the Elluminate screen.

Elluminate is used by several of the university's schools for distance education and works well. There are some things to know before delving into an Elluminate recorded demonstration:

1. To view a session, you need an Internet connection and speakers on your computer. Make sure your volume is turned to an appropriate level.

2. Elluminate calls for a small Java download to run. Test your system by going to this page:
http://www.elluminate.com/support/

3. To launch a recorded session, right click on the one you want below and select "Open" to open the file. If you do not have the Elluminate download, the system will prompt you to install it.

4. Once the recording begins, you may stop and start the session using the VCR-like controls to the top or to the left on your Elluminate screen.

5. You may stretch your Elluminate demo window to make it larger; also there are scroll bars on the right hand side and on the bottom of your Elluminate screen to help you follow along.

NOTE: If you are prompted for a user name and password by Elluminate it means you do not have the download properly installed on your machine. Please try again. Some departments have security set on your computers so that users cannot download and install anything, so you may need to contact your LAN Administrator or Desktop support to install the Java plug-in.

If you have any questions or issues with watching a demo, please send an e-mail to:
