Mission
-
Hopkins Kicks Butts (HKB) is JHU's Anti-Tobacco Coalition. The mission of Hopkins Kicks Butts is to promote a healthier campus community through activism and awareness against tobacco use. We are dedicated to raising awareness about the harm and dangers of tobacco use. Through tabling, campaigns, policy change, and outreach, HKB works to make Homewood a healthier, smoke-free environment.
Smoke-free Policy
As part of fulfulling our mission, HKB has developed a smoke-free campus proposal to promote the well-being of the student body by reducing exposure to secondhand smoke. This proposal is not meant to infringe upon anyone's rights but to serve as an important measure towards public health. For more information on the policy and to provide your feedback visit our HKB blog. If you are in support of a smoke-free campus please sign our online petition.
Who we are
Co-Presidents:
Hi I am Shravani. I'm currently a senior pre-med, Chemical and Biomedical Engineering major hailing from West Windsor, NJ. As Co-President of HKB I hope to push for our smoke-free campus policy as well as raise awareness of the harms of smoking among the student body this year. I look forward to working with our members and with the Johns Hopkins community to progress this great cause!
Hi, my name is Zoe and I am a senior Neuroscience major and English minor. I love playing tennis, reading good fiction, watching How I Met Your Mother, and teaching. I'm really excited to be Co-President of Hopkins Kicks Butts because it gives me the opportunity to make campus healthier by making the Hopkins community more aware of the harms of smoking and tobacco use. My goal is to encourage current smokers to quit their habit, not because it makes other people uncomfortable, but because it is better for the smoker.
Events Chair:
Hi, Randy here. I've been interested and involved in HKB since Freshman year. My main passion for doing this is to help spread awareness of the dangers of smoking to one's health and aid those who choose to quit. I have always wanted to work with cancer research and am a Junior BME pursuing that field. I have a variety of interests, including sports and politics. I am Vice President of the College Democrats, a writer for the JHU Politik, Secretary of Engineers without Borders, and a Member of the Hopkins Organization for Programming on campus. I was born and raised in South Florida, but still love it here in Baltimore.
