The GX Listserv The GX list provides information you need during the "Great Excavations 2" project at the Johns Hopkins Homewood campus. Today is Friday, June 14. Today's GX includes:
1. Chemistry Project: Phase 1A 1. Chemistry Project: Phase 1A The next phase of the chemistry building project kicks in this coming week, the week of June 17. See www.jhu.edu/gx/info/chem1a.html for a visual summary of how the area will look from now roughly through July 16. The major development for most of us in this phase of construction is the complete closure of C lot -- the Johns Hopkins Club lot -- to parking. Up to now, only a dozen or so spaces in the lot have been fenced off, but now the whole lot will be inside the construction fence. A new parking two-level structure will be built on the site. Staff who usually park their cars in C lot will be absorbed elsewhere in the paid parking system; the valley lot, for instance, has usually had more than 150 open spaces each day up to now. Johns Hopkins Club patrons will be moved to D lot, behind the Greenhouse. Faculty who usually park in C lot have been informed where alternate spaces are being made available. The other big change during Phase 1A will be the opening of a temporary loading dock behind Mudd Hall. That's the area in brown on the diagram at www.jhu.edu/gx/info/chem1a.html. The temporary dock replaces the Macaulay dock (in red), which will be demolished as part of the project. The new chemistry building will include the permanent replacement dock. As outlined in one of the June 13 GX messages, you can expect periodic closures during the week of June 17 of the roadway just north of the Johns Hopkins Club and C lot. This is to permit completion of utility work. When those closures occur, motorists will be directed into the new driveway just inside the lacrosse gates from San Martin Drive (on the left side of www.jhu.edu/gx/info/chem1a.html) and from there around the front of the club and back onto the main roadway. 2.
