The GX Listserv The GX list provides information you need during the "Great Excavations 2" project and related construction projects at the Johns Hopkins Homewood campus. Today is Tuesday, July 9. Today's GX includes:
1. Delicate surgery 1. Delicate surgery Transplants are among the trickiest of operations, particularly when the surgical instrument is not a scalpel but a huge crane. Last week, two patients -- large, mature holly trees -- were transplanted to new homes on the GX2 site. Both were moved from other spots in the construction area, and both are important elements in landscape architect Aaron Teeter's planting plan. One, a Nellie Stevens holly, was placed on the left side of the south entrance to the Gilman tunnel; another new tree will eventually be planted on the other side to complete the symmetry. The second transplant, an American Holly, was eased back into the ground near the Glass Pavilion. That's where the designers are creating a "green finger" onto campus from the nearby woods. You can see photos from the transplantation at www.jhu.edu/gx/info/tree1.html and www.jhu.edu/gx/info/tree2.html. By the way, both patients are doing well. 2.
