Darfur Now Screening with Adam Sterling

In this interactive event, clips of the recent movie Darfur Now - a 2007 documentary on the genocide in Darfur—will be screened. The movie explores six different people (including Oscar-nominated actor Don Cheadle) who have decided to play an active role in ending the genocide in Sudan and the ways in which they have fought to end the confl ict, which began in 2003. Along with Cheadle, one of the other six people the directors of the movie chose to follow was Adam Sterling of Genocide Intervention Network [GI-NET].

Mr. Sterling is GI-NET's Director of Sudan Divestment Taskforce. Mr. Sterling will join us as he discusses the movie, questions about Darfur and genocide in general, and the ways in which we as individuals can bring about positive humanitarian change to the world. He is a graduate of the University of California, Los Angeles with degrees in African American Studies and Political Science. Adam has received a number of humanitarian awards and serves as an advisor on divestment issues to numerous state pension funds, state legislators, and federal representatives. Sudan Divestment Taskforce has been profiled extensively in the press, including contributions to The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, The LA Times, The SF Chronicle, The Christian Science Monitor, and National Public Radio.
