Here are photos from our Friday visit to the sandstone quarries of Gebel Silsila, south of Luxor, where the sandstone formations of Egypt and Nubia begin. Chapels were built there from the quarry areas during the new kingdom intensive use of the stone for building such things as Karnak temple -- and Mut!
