Hanging out near the ARCE Hostel where they are staying are Shaina, Ashley, and Meredith. The residence there is very comfortable and the food excellent. The students complain that they are gaining weight, despite the strenuous work in this difficult heat. |

Shaina and Meredith help Violaine lay out a new square in the area recently cleared of reeds. It is nearly in the middle of what had been the lake and may well turn out to be too wet to excavate. However, we are going to try. It will be F. The last shot, taken a little while later shows the first attempts at digging. |

In Trench B the baked brick feature is nearly entirely dismantled now. In the first photo taken from the east, the west baulk shows the mud brick wall overlay the stone and baked brick. We have also seen this in the east baulk of B. |

Fraser Parsons, ARCE’s Director of Luxor Projects has facilitated the dewatering efforts here, together with his Engineer, Mr. Magdy. Fraser looks at the water that has appeared in Trench C together with Violaine. He is going to install a sump pump to help us draw off water here. |

Hiroko has been working to remove the thick accretion layer on the statue that we removed from the lake. She keeps the statue wet and wets it further to soften the material which is very hard. Then she uses a scalpel to remove the layer bit by bit. |

In Trench C the large baked brick feature runs at an angle nearly parallel to the brick feature in B. Both are underlain with stone and appear to represent more than one phase of construction. The exact definition of these structures remains somewhat elusive, despite their obvious connection to the quay and north corner of the lake. Mud brick continued to appear after brick scatter and a few platformed mud bricks were taken out. |
