| The area at the southeast of the temple is nearing the point of leveling and clearance. Katie will begin to lay out small trenches to see what may lie beneath, before we turn this area into an “open air museum” for conserved blocks. The remains of Roman era brick walls can be seen in the corner angle. |

| Here you can see Katie, Chuck, and her qufti Salah, with the workmen, as they begin to excavate the first test trench. With a width of one meter, it will not take long to reach depths that will identify significant monuments that we should record in the future.

In the front of the temple three large undecorated blocks that were part of the materials in room West 1 need to be removed. We had moved them slightly to clear the paving and mud brick, but now they sit atop the next area to be cleared. The work crew brings in the tripod “siba” with a winch to lift the blocks over the front wall and into the Second Court . Now in a couple of days we will continue work in this region.

After moving the blocks at the front of the temple, the “siba” crew takes the set up to the rear to assist Katie with moving the last of the large blocks in her area. Those with architectural features will be placed on the temple wall, and the rest up on the hill. |

| You will not see me (Betsy) again until January 27 and then with a new feature of my own — a cast on my right ankle. On the 22nd as I moved across the front wall of the temple, I fell. Katie and Jay, together with Kent, will carry on until I'm allowed up again.
