Betsy and Katie looking at today's images

Late this afternoon as I chose the images for the day, I laughed as I saw the ones of Katie and Salah. Immediately as she told us what it was all about, we began to reenact the scene ourselves. So here it is again, sort of.

Violaine and Betsy make selections at the Omar Market     Violaine and Katie select chips
Today is actually the Islamic New Year's Day, so we broke early and went to Omar Market, the closest thing to a real supermarket in Luxor . Betsy bought a frozen chicken, and Katie and Violaine both eyed the Pringles. Look at that basket – two cokes, potato chips, and chocolate! At the end Betsy dragged her full basket up to the check out, highly pleased with the great selection in the market.

Katie using carpenter's profile to determine outline of bottle     Violaine instructs Katie on pottery drawing
Katie will do some pottery drawing in the afternoons over the next weeks, and Violaine gave her a refresher course this afternoon at our flat. However, we don't have any ceramics here, so instead they cut up a water bottle, so that they could practice drawing a “closed form”. Katie uses the carpenter's profile to get a proper outline of the bottle, and this she will trace onto the paper. Now Violaine will set the notebook against the bottle to create a straight edge that will allow Katie to measure the width of the bottle neck at a variety of points. Finally, Jay took this stunning picture of Violaine with the afternoon sun lighting up her face.
