Jeremy and Sarah study a scene of Akhenaten and Nefertiti offering on an enormous altar in the Aten temple. |
In the royal tomb at Amarna. Now equipped with a paved road into the royal wadi, where the king and his family prepared tombs, Amarna is a marvel to visit. The side suite of rooms in the royal tomb shows a scene of Akhenaten and Nefertiti mourning the death of their daughter, while a nurse holds a royal baby, thought by many to be the infant Tutankhamun. The long rays of the king's only god Aten are everywhere in evidence. |
The burial chamber of Akhenaten. Beautifully restored. |
In the tomb of great courtier Ay, who later succeeded Tutankhamun as king, Sharon gazes up at the remains of relief now poorly preserved. In the doorway, however, are the hymns to the Aten and kneeling figures of Ay and his wife adoring the great sun disk. |
