Hopkins In Egypt Today

Walls in Elaine's Area

In Elaine's area at the rear walls have finally appeared, and now she has many to follow in search of her building's exterior corners. In the new square that she opened she has a continuation of an east-west wall, but it joins another wall running southwest. Does she have a corner?

Wall and Feature in Elaine's Square

To the south Elaine also finally found the wall she was searching for last week. It was at a lower level, and there is a feature beneath it as well. It never rains - it just pours.

Preparing to Remove the Vessel   Removing the Vessel

Excitement in Emily's square! They have found a bronze handled vessel in the center of a New Kingdom granary's remains. Mahmoud Abbady carefully excavates around it. Jay came out to photograph the vessel in situ, but now the work begins. Kent and Hiroko begin the work to extricate the vessel - along with the soil it sits on - and place it in a plastic tray for transport. Kent ties pieces of Theraband, elastic used in physical therapy, that give but provide stability for many bronze fragments.
