Ridge behind the lake, early morning   Ridge behind the lake, early morning

Ridge behind the lake, early morning   Ridge behind the lake, early morning
The ridge behind the lake is a busy place these days, since we’re uncovering the plastered slope around the lake and also cleaning the great east-wall wall itself. Shots that pan the length of this western area were taken in the early morning and show the atmospheric effects that are so captivating.
Maria and Elizabeth measuring   Maria
Maria is leaving tomorrow, and we kept her busy on her last day with us. Here she is working with Elizabeth to make measurements needed to draw the walls in the square. She is always smiling. We miss you already Maria.
Katie at elevation zero   Yasmin taking levels
Katie is also saying goodbye today and was likewise hopping all day long. Here she is helping Yasmin take levels, and you see her at the “0” of the temple, our elevation zero taken from the threshold stone at the entranceway.
View of the wall, trenches, and plastered surface
A terrific view of the wall, trenches, and plastered surface we’re now exploring.
Wendy's square   Wendy's square

Wendy and her crew
Today was Wendy’s last day with us also, and we’ll be so sad to see her go. She has run a superb square with great New Kingdom material, such as that which you see here. Still producing mid-18th Dynasty pottery, today Wendy has a real hard packed floor surface in the trench, of course with some pottery sitting on it. Here’s her hard working crew!
Scott and Katie and their gufti Fikry and crew
Scott and Katie and their gufti Fikry who worked at the upper central square.
Fatma, Maria, and their gufti Ayman with their crew
Fatma, Maria, and their gufti Ayman with their excellent crew at the east end behind the lake. Superb work!
Reis Farouk and Maria   Reis Farouk and Maria
Reis Farouk and Maria just seem to be two peas in a pod. Both of them mug for the camera and giggle a lot!
Elizabeth, her gufti Mahmoud Abady, and their workers
Elizabeth, her gufti Mahmoud Abady, and their workers near the Thutmose III gateway. Elizabeth is leaving us tomorrow, and we’re going to miss her so much, but we know her students back in Baltimore will be glad she’s returning.
Group photo
The second group photo of the season. This is a really fine shot of everyone!
