In front of a statue of the goddess Sakhmet we opened a small trench to find pottery associated with the original placement of the statue. Betsy Teasley Trope and Betsy Bryan look over pottery coming up in near association with the statue.

In front of statues of Sakhmet (the lion-headed goddess) Yasmin el-Shazly supervises work that has turned up a level of sandstone fragments. The lower portions of statues may be seen in the background.
