Work on the Gateway - 18380 Bytes

Beginning work on a gateway into the Temple of Mut that was built around 1479 B.C., Violaine Chauvet brushes the mudbrick atop the original enclosure wall. That wall surrounded the Temple of Mut in an early phase and was superseded a thousand years later.

Clearing Weeds - 20385 Bytes

As we begin our search for the original wall behind the Temple of Mut, it is necessary to remove the heavy growth of camel thorn and reeds. The workers, under the supervision of J.J. Shirley haul away overgrowth, exposing an area about 25 meters square. We will be putting in a 10 meter square tomorrow and will begin excavating where we hope to find a wall and perhaps canal or gateway
