HOP-SIPThe Hopkins Social Innovation Partnerships (HOP-SIP) was formed in 2008 by Dr. Philip Leaf of the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health, Bill Tiefenwerth of the JHU Center for Social Concern, and Mindi Levin of the Student Outreach Resource Center at the Johns Hopkins Medical Campus. It’s purpose is to promote social entrepreneurship across the Johns Hopkins Campuses, linking faculty, staff, and students together to address some of Baltimore’s most pressing needs. The organization provides technical expertise, seed funding, and a broad network of community and governmental networks to accomplish groundbreaking course work, civic engagement, and service-learning. It is governed by a board of faculty, staff, students (graduate and undergraduate), and JHU alums. Bill Tiefenwerth is the Homewood campus contact. While enrolled in the Baltimore Transition Connection, students receive the support of a certified special educator and an experienced special education assistant. Areas of study include daily living skills, personal-social skills, and occupational guidance and preparation. Students practice everything from managing a checking account and purchasing food, to decision-making skills and resume writing. The CSC serves as one of the sites for the program.
