Here is the bread and butter of Circle K.. our upcoming volunteer projects and contact information of the project leaders can be found right here. If you fancy participating in a particular project or want more information, feel free to email/telephone the project leader. Thanks a lot for your interest!

Here are just a few examples of the community service projects that Circle K completed this year!

1. YO GED Tutoring:

Circle K members tutor 16-21 year olds who are trying to earn their GED at the Youth Opportunities (YO) center in East Baltimore. Members teach different subjects depending on their own strengths and what the students need to learn. Circle K goes twice every week.

2. The Refugee Youth Project:

Circle K goes weekly to tutor refugee youth with the Refugee Youth Project. Tutoring involves one hour of activities (for example, worksheets and games depending on age) and one hour of homework help. All ages are tutored, and older students get help with SAT prep and college essays.

3. Sister Circle:

A member of Circle K runs this weekly mentoring project for 8 local 5th grade girls. Sessions include for example presentations by local career women, learning activities, conflict management discussions, etc. The girls also go on field trips several times per month, during which time other Circle K members help out (to the pool or to museums, for example)

4. Hopkins Children’s House:

Members of Circle K go every week to do arts and crafts at the HCH. This is a place where families can stay while their child is being treated at the Johns Hopkins Hospital. Circle K also cooks dinner for residents of the house approximately once a month.

5. Neighborhood cleanup projects:

Circle K participates in local clean-ups often. Recent ones include the Wyman Park Dell project, the Ricky Myers Day of Service, and the Barclay cleanup. These usually involve picking up trash, weeding, mulching, and planting flowers.

6. Local school cleanups:

Circle K has gone to Eutaw-Marshburn Elementary many times to help paint, garden, and generally clean up the school. We hope to do the same for Dr. Rayner Browne Elementary in the future.

7. Bring a Smile to a Child this Holiday Season:

Circle K gets a list of what each child at Dr. Rayner Browne Elementary wants for the holidays. We then fundraise approximately $3000 through grants, donations from retailers, Photos with Santa fundraiser, and change collection cups set around campus. Circle K buys and wraps each of the 200 gifts, and delivers them along with a holiday party.

8. The Chara House:

Circle K buys baby clothes and other requested items for the Chara House, a place where medically-fragile babies can live for several years after they are born.

9. Hampden Easter project:

Circle K helps out our sponsors, the Hampden-Midtown Kiwanis, at this Easter project. We hide eggs and supervise the easter egg hunt. One members also dresses up as the Easter bunny and takes photos with kids.

10. The Homewood Blood Drive:

Circle K helps staff the blood drive every time it comes to Homewood, helping pass out cookies and drinks to donors.

11. Books for Soldiers:

Once or twice a year Circle K goes to The Book Thing and collects lots of interesting books to send to soldiers overseas. We also include letters and cards, and sometimes goody bags full of candy and gum.

12. The Emancipation Network:

Circle K is helping this organization raise awareness about human trafficking. We sell products made by survivors of human trafficking (the money goes back directly to them or to shelters) and will show a movie in the future to raise awareness.
