Spring Fair 2009

Spring Fair was a great success this year! The weather actually cooperated for once and it was warm and sunny all weekend. So we had plenty of thirsty supporters in the Beer Garden, where we sold beer and accepted donations. And luckily we could brave the heat under our canopy at our table in the Student Group/Non-Profit section. There we gave out information, sold T-shirts, and asked people to share with us why they are pro-choice. We love to hear from all the people on campus and in the community that support reproductive justice for all!

SFC's Movie Nights 2009

In April we watched "The Education of Shelby Knox", a documentary about a young girl in conservative Lubbock, Texas battling the school board and the community to bring comprehensive sex education to schools plagued with high teen pregnancy and STI rates. It was eye-opening to watch Shelby struggle with her conservative family and church.

In February, Students for Choice gathered to watch the documentary "Never go Back: The Threat to Legalized Abortion." It chronicled the history of the pro-choice movement from pre-Roe to the Bush administration. Attendees said the movie made them feel proud to be the next generation of crusaders for freedom of choice. We also discussed how certain parts of the film are still relevant today or are soon to change with the Obama administration.

Sex on the Beach- October 5th, 2008

Sex on the Beach Fall '08 was a success! We set up on the beach on a beautiful sunny day with political information, games, candy, condoms and mocktails. Students came by to take a study break and get lei'd by the lovely Students for Choice. We had a free raffle for sex toys, party packs, and penis pops. As always, there was a plethora of free condoms, buttons, and information. If you missed us, look out for Sex on the Beach Spring '09 (we usually do it once every semester). See you there!

Choice in the Beer Garden- Spring Fair 2008

At Hopkins Spring Fair 2008, Students for Choice sold beer in the infamous Beer Garden. We celebrated a woman's right to choose by giving customers the option of two fine brews: Blue Moon and Coors Light. We even had complimentary orange slices with our drinks. And of course, we also gave away our famous "I ♥ Pro-Choice Boys" (or Girls) buttons. Didn't see us last year? Make sure you come by for Spring Fair 2009 (with your valid ID of course!) and buy a beer to support choice! All the proceeds go towards Students for Choice campus events and the free stuff we give away.

Charles Street Counter Protest- April 13th, 2007

On April 13th, 2007 many Hopkins students were met with a large protest on their way to classes. A Christian Pro-Life group collected on the median of Charles street right in front of the beach (City property, not Hopkins). They brought huge banners depicting false, disturbing, images of bloody fetuses. Pro-choice hopkins students quickly collected to show passerbys that this group did not represent Hopkins and their images were disturbing and inappropriate. A lot of students came out to hold a sign or talk to us a bit and it was a real blast! If you want to be part of our counter-protest action team, sign up for the email updates.
