The Career Center offers the following workshops to help students
build skills and explore careers. Some workshops are offered several
times a semester while others are offered once a year. Check

The Academic Job Search for Graduate Students
Come and learn about the academic job search from the pros! This
is a place to ask all the questions you have and get answers to
increase your odds for success.
Breaking Into... (A Workshop Series)
Learn what it takes to succeed in certain industries. These panel
discussions feature JHU alumni and other professionals. Past workshops
have focused on Biotechnology, Creative Careers, Public Health,
Investment Banking, Non-Profits, Consulting and more.
A Day in the Life of a Graduate Student
Thinking of attending graduate school in the future? Attend this
workshop to gain insights regarding the preparation and selection
process, applications, standardized tests, and the day-to-day life
of a graduate student. This is a great opportunity to ask the questions
that you have about graduate school and receive candid responses
to those questions.
Financial Services Internships
Interested in a career in financial services? This workshop will
highlight a few of the different careers that make up this broad
industry and how to find the internship that you want.
Funding Your Internship
Finding money for an unpaid internship can be tricky. Come learn
about the process of locating funding sources available to Hopkins
students. Internship Grant programs for undergraduates – the
SDS, Robins, and Vredenburg – will be highlighted in this
workshop.
How to Work a Career Fair
Have you ever wondered what to do when you walk into a crowded career
fair? Come and find out how to approach this situation in a strategic
way in order to make the best impression that you can.
International Internships
Many Hopkins students intern abroad each year. This panel will discuss
how Hopkins students can prepare and access different international
internship programs.
Interviews: Practical Tips to Market Your Skills
The job interview is your chance to shine, sell your strengths,
and present yourself as a unique candidate. Learn the importance
of preparation and practice in this workshop designed to help you
prepare to communicate your unique strengths in a compelling manner.
Navigating the Career Center Website
Learn to use the contents of both the Career Center Website and
your Career Center Account to: do research about career fields,
find internship opportunities, locate full time job openings and
make networking contacts. Bring your questions about the website
and careers, internships, jobs and networking.
Networking: Your Competitive Edge
Networking is the best way to find job and internship opportunities.
Learn how to build and maintain your professional network as you
plan your career. This experiential workshop will take you from
basic networking skills to advanced strategies so that you are at
the right place at the right time.
The Non-Academic Job Search (for Graduate Students)
In this panel, alumni will give you tips on where to find job postings,
how to market your skills, and how to make a lasting impression
on potential employers.
Preparing for On-Campus Recruiting
On-Campus Recruiting (OCR) is a valuable tool if you use it well.
This workshop covers all the basics and offers important tips. Learn
the secrets to OCR success!
Resumes & Cover Letters: The Basics
Great resumes and cover letters are the foundation to any successful
career endeavor. This course is designed to teach you the basics
of resume and cover letter writing. Learn to focus your correspondence
and market the best parts of your experiences.
Resumes (for Graduate Students)
Thinking about opportunities outside of academia? Need to turn your
CV into a resume? Learn about developing a resume that will effectively
market your skills.
Starting the Graduate School Search
Planning to go to grad school? What tests do you need to take? When
do you apply? How do you pick a school? Should you pursue a master’s
degree or a doctorate? How much is it going to cost? Should you
go full-time or part-time? This workshop will help you answer these
questions and examine your thoughts about going to graduate school

Series)

in a particular major to learn more about a few of the career options
available to you.
Writing Your Curriculum Vita (for Graduate Students)
Learn to create a CV for your academic job search. This would be
a good workshop for someone attempting a CV for the first time and
someone polishing off the perfect CV.
