During the Career Center’s peak times (early in the fall
and spring semesters), you may need to schedule your appointment
a week or two in advance. We do receive cancellations, so you may
try calling in the morning to see if something has opened up the
same day.
To maximize the time that you will spend with a career counselor during your upcoming appointment, these are some things we suggest you do:
1. Access your J-Connect Account
- Review the Jobs & Internships, Events and Employers section. Use the Documents tab to upload your resume
- If you don’t know your username or password, call the Career Center at 410-516-8056
2. Meet with a Peer Assistant.
- Monday-Friday 9:00am - 4:30pm
3. Come to Drop-ins to meet with a Career Advisor/Counselor Drop-in Hours
5. Review the Career Center website. If you are looking for a job or internship, you will find tips and resources for all the steps in your search process outlined on our website in the Find an Internship and Find a Job sections.
6. Review the Career Decision-Making Model handout. Assess your placement in the model and review the tips provided to get started with addressing your concerns.
7. Prepare questions for your appointment so that you can fully maximize your time with your counselor.
8. Attend the workshops offered by the Career Center. Many of your questions can be answered at a workshop. Check the Career Center Calendar and J-Connect for workshops, panels and other events..
You may request to meet with a particular counselor or meet with
the first available counselor. Each of the Career Center’s
counselors are able to help all students, regardless of major or
background.
Most initial career counseling appointments are thirty minutes
in duration. If you are interested in a mock interview or are returning
to have an assessment interpreted, you can expect your appointment
to last one hour.
Please arrive 5-10 minutes early. Please bring a printed copy of your resume. Don’t have a resume? Peer Assistants can help you draft a resume.
If you are in the following categories, you are eligible to receive
unlimited counseling appointments in the Career Center.
- All full-time students in the Krieger School of Arts &
Sciences
- All full-time students in the Whiting School of Engineering
- Alumni within five years of graduation of full-time Arts &
Sciences and Engineering programs
