Rules of the Competition
Participation
- At least one team member has to be an enrolled student (either full-time or part-time) in one of the academic divisions at Johns Hopkins University.
- Student can enter as an individual or with other team members.
- If the team consists of non-Hopkins members, the Hopkins' student(s) must participate in the presentation if the team makes it to the semi-finals and finals.
- Teams may participate in other business plans competitions outside of Hopkins.
- Students may participate in more than one team.
Categories
- Business plans may be submitted to only one of the following categories:
- General Business
- Life Sciences (includes Biotechnology, Medical Devices and Pharmaceutical)
- Social Enterprise and Community Service
Pre-Existing Companies
- Teams may submit business plans for pre-existing companies, provided that:
- The company is pre-profit
- The company has received less than $10,000.00 in outside investment.
Re-Entering the Competition in the Future
- Business plans that have placed in the top three in any category in any previous years of the Hopkins' Business Plan Competition may not re-enter in this year's competition. Any other business plans may re-enter.
