Rules of the Competition

Participation
  1. At least one team member has to be an enrolled student (either full-time or part-time) in one of the academic divisions at Johns Hopkins University.

  2. Student can enter as an individual or with other team members.

  3. If the team consists of non-Hopkins members, the Hopkins' student(s) must participate in the presentation if the team makes it to the semi-finals and finals.

  4. Teams may participate in other business plans competitions outside of Hopkins.

  5. Students may participate in more than one team.

Categories
  1. Business plans may be submitted to only one of the following categories:

    1. General Business
    2. Life Sciences (includes Biotechnology, Medical Devices and Pharmaceutical)
    3. Social Enterprise and Community Service

Pre-Existing Companies
  1. Teams may submit business plans for pre-existing companies, provided that:

    1. The company is pre-profit
    2. The company has received less than $10,000.00 in outside investment.

Re-Entering the Competition in the Future
  1. Business plans that have placed in the top three in any category in any previous years of the Hopkins' Business Plan Competition may not re-enter in this year's competition. Any other business plans may re-enter.
