About Us

The purpose of the Johns Hopkins University Classical Ballet Company is to cultivate the performing arts at Hopkins by training members in the classical ballet form. The group also choreographs and performs traditional and contemporary ballet pieces for the student population.

Although there are a lot of dance groups on campus, the JHU Classical Ballet Company is a recent addition, having only been an established company since Fall 2007. A ballet company has a very different atmosphere than any other kind of dance group, and its members are generally focused on both team and individual training. There is a lot of discipline involved and much strength necessary for the study of classical ballet. Members must train their bodies to maintain proper form at all times while also opening themselves up to the artistic expression and lightness of the dance.
