Hopkins Baja

Hopkins Baja is an undergraduate student team at Johns Hopkins University. We design, build and race a one-seat off-road vehicle for a student design competition. The car is completely designed in-house, providing vast learning opportunities for members of the team to gain invaluable, real-world design dexperience. Furthermore, the car is almost entirely fabricated by hand, which allows students to gain a real understanding of the capabilities of machine tools, welders, and human workers. The construction of the car also includes custom carbon fiber, including wet layups and vaccuum bagging. The experience gained from Baja is a huge advantage in advanced classes, as well as out in the workforce. Two past members of Baja are now design engineers for Honda Research and Development. Other, non-automotive companies respect and seek the experience gained from Baja because they recognize the realistic environment in which the organization operates.
