Blood Pressure Screening Program

Begun in December 2007, the Johns Hopkins APAMSA Blood Pressure Screening Program was created as part of JHU APAMSA's community outreach efforts. Every other Saturday, Johns Hopkins medical students spend the afternoon measuring blood pressures and promoting awareness of lifestyle choices. This program is a collaboration with the H Mart and food court. We offer free blood pressure screenings on the following dates:

Saturday, December 1 (10-1pm)
Saturday, December 15 (11-2pm)
Saturday, January 19 (11-2pm)
Saturday, February 2 (11-2pm)
Saturday, March 1st (11-2pm)


Medical Chinese Course (MCC)

The Medical Chinese Course at Johns Hopkins was started in Fall 2006 with the goal of arming future physicians with Mandarin language skills. The course objectives are four-fold: to communicate effectively with API patients, learn medical terminology, conduct a history and physical in Mandarin, and converse with patients and physicians in Mandarin-speaking countries. In October 2006, the 1st year-long beginner's level MCC was opened to Johns Hopkins medical students.

Since its succcessful launch, the course has expanded to three levels: Beginner, Advanced Beginner and Intermediate/Advanced. Registration is open to all students affiliated with Hopkins.


Previous Conferences at JHU SOM

2007 Region III/IV Conference
In April 2007, Johns Hopkins APAMSA hosted the Region III/IV conference: "Unspoken: Health Issues Affecting Asian-Americans". Welcoming over 250 attendees from Florida to Philadelphia, the conference featured keynote speaker Dr. Steven Yang, Chief of Thoracic Surgery at Johns Hopkins. Medical students, physicians, and premedical students also enjoyed a variety of talks, interactive workshops, an intimate reception with attendings and a Baltimore-themed dinner.
