Computer Modeling
These systems simulate biological responses and
molecular structure and activity relationships. Data for such
simulations are derived from in vivo work.
Animal Model Selection
The Institute for Laboratory Animal Resources
publishes the ILAR Journal,
which discusses different animal models used in research, teaching
and testing. ILAR also
publishes information on sources
for research animals and genetic material.

National Agricultural Library
The Animal
Welfare Information
Center (AWIC)
provides information for improved animal care in research, testing
and teaching. AWIC is part of the National Agricultural Library
designated by the federal government to provide information on
alternatives. AWIC provides training and is a repository for a
broad range of information including audiovisual materials.

ALTWEB
ALTWEB
was produced by the Johns
Hopkins Center
for Alternatives to Animal Testing (CAAT) in collaboration with
governmental, academic and private organizations to provide information
on alternatives. ALTWEB is recognized as the premier site for
information on alternatives. It
contains a search engine, pain management database as well as
full text documents.
CAAT
The Johns Hopkins
Center for Alternatives to Animal Testing works with scientists
to find new methods to replace the use of laboratory animals in
experiments, reduce the number of animals tested, and refine necessary
tests to eliminate pain and distress.
UCCAA
The University
of California Center for Animal Alternatives is an excellent
source for information on animal alternatives to improve the wellbeing
and quality of life of research animals wherever possible, and
to optimize their contribution to education and research.
The Department of Comparative
Medicine maintains a library of audiovisual and print material
to assist in your research endeavors involving animals.
Veterinarians in this department will assist in model selection,
experimental design and provide appropriate training.
The Animal Care and Use Committee has
developed an Animal
Care and Use website. This site contains resources to support
your research and teaching program involving the use of animals.
The Animal Care and Use Committee staff provides training
on humane care and use of animals.
The Committee also maintains a small library of relevant
audiovisual and printed materials.
NORINA
The Norwegian
Reference Center
for Laboratory Animal Science and Alternatives has a
superb collection of materials for teaching and research. Click here to view
materials on their site.
