What is Rush?

Rush is a time for girls who are interested in joining our sorority to come out to meet and get to know the sisters, while receiving more information about aKDPhi. Attending these events should be very beneficial for anyone who is interested or curious in understanding what aKDPhi is about. All rush events are laid-back, informative, fun, and last but not least, free! There is also no obligation to join!

Reasons to rush αΚΔΦ

  1. To enhance networking opportunities
  2. To apply and develop leadership skills
  3. To become more culturally aware
  4. To participate in community service
  5. To allow for personal growth in dealing with a diverse group of women
  6. To make the most of your college career through new experiences you can't receive in any other environment
  7. To create friendships through sisterhood that will last a lifetime

Q & A

Will pledging take up too much time and affect my grades?

Pledging is a serious decision and one that does require time commitment. However, pledging usually only takes one semester and other sisters have done it successfully before. As with any commitment, proper time management can be very beneficial and makes the whole process more efficient. The sisters of aKDPhi feel that as a college student, one's academics are of primary importance. We have an Academic Chair who monitors not only academic performance of our pledges, but of our active sisters as well. Every individual in aKDPhi is required to maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5. It really depends on your study habits and time management skills: if you don't study before you pledge, you will not study while you pledge. Think of pledgeship as a 3 credit class.

Does the sorority do anything besides party all the time?

This is a widespread stereotype of Greek organizations. Therefore, we understand that as a sorority, there may be misconceptions about our activities. We do hold various social functions and enjoy a good time. But, we also realize that there are appropriate times for play and also for work. Each of our actives is aware of their academics, and, as individuals, each have their own interests separate from aKDPhi.

The purpose of our Sorority is to promote Sisterhood, Scholarship, Leadership and Asian awareness in our community and University. Yes, we do go to parties and promote them, but we're much more than just that. Many of our sisters are leaders in other student organizations on campus.

Are all sororities only about partying, smoking, and drinking?

We never encourage our members to smoke or drink. The core of our foundation as an organization is the bond of sisterhood that we share, not the love for a good party, or those few cigarettes or drinks. It is an individual's personal choice.

If you join a Greek organization, are you paying for friends?

Nothing is further from the truth. You cannot just pay and be a member; you have to earn your letters. You learn many things while you are pledging, such as leadership, sacrifice, and love. You build a bond with all the girls in the sorority that you can never break, and even if you don't pay them, they will still be your sisters for life. Our dues are one of the lowest of all Greek sororities, and we are a non-profit organization; therefore, all the money goes back to you.

Do you have to be Asian to pledge aKDPhi?

Of course not! We are an Asian-American interest sorority, which means that we promote Asian-American awareness. We have sisters of all ethnicities across the nation who have joined us in our mission. In meeting this objective, we do not discriminate against anyone in any way; ethnicity is not a factor when we choose our pledges. We warmly welcome all women who share our purpose, interest, and vision.
