Specialized tutoring is available for all Hopkins students during the academic year free of charge. Tutoring is not a substitute for class participation or course work.

The Learning Den

Small Group Tutoring
Small groups consist of a maximum of six students from the same course headed by one tutor.
Tutors review course material and encourage students to interact by asking questions and exchanging information. Courses supported for the spring include:

Schedule for Group Tutoring, Spring 2010

Spring tutoring runs until May 5. Students wishing to sign-up for tutoring should view our tutoring schedule. This schedule may change slightly from week to week.

Seats for sessions are filled on a first-come, first-serve basis. All groups may contain a maximum of six students.

How to Reserve a Tutoring Session Seat

Students may sign-up two weeks in advance for specific tutoring sessions. Students must be currently enrolled in the course in order to receive tutoring. Students must also have attended all scheduled classes.

In person: Students may stop by the Office of Academic Advising, Garland Hall, Suite 3A, to speak with the Tutoring Coordinator.

Over the phone: Students may call (410)516-8216 to speak with the Tutoring Coordinator.

On the web: Students may visit http://tutoring.jhu.edu/AccuWeb to reserve their seat online. To login, STUDENTS MUST HAVE THEIR 6-CHARACTER HOPKINS ID. The Hopkins ID can be found in ISIS, under the student’s account. Select “Personal Info”, then select “Summary”. Your Hopkins ID can be found at the top of the screen under “Biographic Information”.

How to Cancel a Tutoring Session Seat

To cancel a reservation, contact Ms. Novic or cancel on the web no later than noon the day of the tutoring session.

Students who reserve a seat and do not show will have a “no show” marked on their record. Students who are more than 15 minutes late for a session will have a “no show” marked on their record. After two no shows, students will have their reservation privileges revoked for the semester.

Other Help Sessions

Introductory Chemistry Help Sessions
The Chemistry Department offers free help sessions for students in Introductory Chemistry during the academic year. Lecture help sessions run 6:30-8 pm, Mondays through Thursdays in Remsen 140. Lab help sessions run 6-7 pm, Sundays through Thursdays in Dunning 205. This schedule, and any changes, will be posted on the course WebCT site. Math Help Room
The Math Department offers free tutoring in math courses during the academic year. The schedule for the Math help room, which runs in Krieger 213, can be found on the Math Department home page at http://www.mathematics.jhu.edu/new/ .

Physics Help Room
The Physics Department offers free tutoring in physics courses during the academic year. The Physics Help room is held in Bloomberg Hall and is staffed by TAs. The spring schedule has not yet been finalilzed. A link to the current schedule will be found here.

Writing Center
The Writing Center offers free assistance at any stage of the writing process. The center is open Sunday through Thursday from 2 - 10 pm. They are located in the Greenhouse Annex, (410) 516-4258.
