PowerPoint Presentations - Using Impatica

How to use Imaptica to convert your PowerPoint file for a website or online course

  • We have to make a couple of changes to the image and sound settings of the Impatica file depending on the target internet connection. Click on the "Media" tab (shown below) to change these settings
  • For a 56K Connection:
    • Choose JPEG quality around 35% (with "Always recompress checked")
    • Make sure "Compact Sound" is selected in the Sound Format field
  • For a Broadband Connection:
    • Choose JPEG quality above 70% (with "Always recompress checked")
    • Make sure "WAV PCM " is selected in the Sound Format field

  • Click on "Apply to All"
  • NOTE: If you used PowerPoint 2007 to create your presentation, and you saved it as a 97-2003 PowerPoint file, you may need to select "PowerPoint 97, 2000, and X" under Animation Playback. Depending on the circumstances (such as the Operating System you used PowerPoint in, what functions you used in PowerPoint 2007, etc), the sound playback and animation may have improper timing if saved with "PowerPoint 2002 (XP) and 2003" selected. That is, sometimes the sound will be delayed, or may play back twice per slide. Try using the "PowerPoint 2002 (XP) and 2003" option first, and then test the file. If there are problems with the sound (such as it being delayed or playing back twice), re-Impaticize the file using the "PowerPoint 97, 2000 and X" option instead. This may result in some side effects with the background on the slides, but the sound should play correctly. This discrepancy may have been resolved in Impatica 4.x (to accomodate PowerPoint 2007 files), but there is no data about that at this time.
  • Now, you are ready to create the Impatica file. Click on the Impaticize button at the bottom right hand corner of the window. If your Impaticize button is greyed out, it is because you haven't entered the registration code. Note: If you used PowerPoint 2007 to save the file as a 93-2003 file, Impatica may hang during the Impaticizing stage (the progress bar won't move for 30-60 minutes). If this happens, try closing Impatica, and retrying all the previous steps again. Also try unchecking "Always recompress" for the JPEG images. It may take a few attempts for it to actually go through properly.
  • Once the impaticization process is complete, you will be taken to another window where you can preview the new file. Click Preview to view the Impatica file. Otherwise, click on Done and you will return to the original window where you can select further files to convert.
