Sometimes you may need to edit a video to remove a long pause or an outtake. In OS X, you can use iMovie HD. The tutorial below was made on a computer running OS X 10.4, so the method may differ slightly depending on your OS/iLife version.
The steps to edit a video consist of:
I. Importing your video
- Start iMovie HD

Click the "Create a New Project"

Name your project. Be sure to select 'MPEG-4' from the Video Format dropdown menu.

You should be taken to the main window. From the 'File' menu, select 'Import'. Select the video file that you wish to edit.

You may have to wait a bit.
II. Editing your video

Select your video clip from the bin at the top right of the window.
- Drag your clip from the bin to the timeline at the bottom of the screen.

Move the playhead to the beginning of the portion that you want to remove.

From the 'Edit' menu, select 'Split Video Clip at Playhead'
- Repeat steps 3 and 4, this time navigating to the end of the portion of the video that you want to remove.

Right click (option - click) on the newly created middle clip on the timeline and select 'Clear'.
- Repeat the above steps as many times as desired.
III. Publishing your video
- Make sure that your current project is saved.

From the 'File' menu, select 'Share'

Make sure that the 'QuickTime' tab is selected, and that 'Web' is the compression mode.
- Click the "Share" button.
- Choose the location where you wish to save your video. Avoiding using special characters such as underscores or apostrophes and ampersands in the file name.
Your edited video is ready to be uploaded!
