Academic Cohort Mentoring Program (ACMP)
The Academic Cohort Mentoring Program (ACMP) is offered with the dual purposes of: (1) teaching the strategies and techniques necessary for meeting the academic rigor of an elite postsecondary education, and (2) providing an interpersonal support network upon which students can rely throughout their first year. Participating freshmen will be placed in small groups of four to six students. All students in a given group will have expressed interest in the same major and registered for at least two courses in common. Each group will be assigned an upperclassman Mentor within their desired major. The Mentor will meet with the group on ten separate occasions throughout the semester for approximately an hour. Twice during the semester, the small group meeting will be replaced with a special large-group presentation from a unit outside the Office of Academic Support. In addition, each student will be entitled to a one-on-one meeting with his or her Mentor every two weeks during the semester.
Registration
All students who accept admission to JHU as Fall 2012 freshmen will receive an invitation to participate in the Academic Cohort Mentoring Program in early May. The invitation will contain Program information and a link to the Program website. If interested in participating, students will be asked to E-mail ACMP@jhu.edu with contact information as well as an indication of their first choice of major. Students will be advised to respond with their interest no later than Monday, July 9th for best consideration.
