JHU Orientation

The Executive Staff

The Orientation Executive Staff went on a retreat at the end of July to the Thousand Islands in upstate New York where they toured the Antique Boat Museum, visited Boldt Castle by taking an antique boat to Heart Island, and spent time together tubing, sailing, canoeing, and fishing on a lake.

Brian Ejsmont

Orientation Coordinator

Brian Brian is a rising senior from Philadelphia, PA.
At Hopkins, Brian is a mechanical engineering major, though he plans on going to business school eventually. On campus he serves on the executive boards of Engineers for a Sustainable World and the Men's Club Volleyball team. Brian is also an involved member of his fraternity, Sigma Phi Epsilon. He enjoys watching the Phillies, going down to the Inner Harbor to play beach volleyball, and hanging out with his friends. This summer, he will also be working for the Maryland Aviation Administration at BWI Airport.  Brian hopes you all have an awesome summer and he looks forward to meeting the class of 2012 in the fall!

Austin Ruckstuhl

First Week Programming Chair

AustinAustin is a true southerner, born in Louisiana and raised in Mississippi.  To escape the heat and humidity, he spent his junior year in high school living in Germany and exploring Europe on a government scholarship.  This summer he has decided to keep it low key by staying in Baltimore and traveling around New England on the weekends. He considers Maryland part of New England and would gladly argue with any dissenters. Austin is a rising sophomore and is a Political Science major.  While working as the First Week Programming Chair for the Class of 2012, he is also working towards becoming a certified personal trainer. Austin is looking forward to welcoming the new freshmen!

Stephanie Shiau

StephanieStephanie Shiau is a rising junior pursuing a major in Public Health Studies and a minor in Music at Hopkins.  She was born in Boston, Massachusetts but spent the majority of her life growing up in Livingston, New Jersey.  Stephanie is an avid fan of the New York Yankees and the New York Giants.  At Hopkins she works for the Intramural Sports Program and is also a member of Spring Fair staff, the Hopkins Symphony Orchestra, and the Women’s Club Volleyball team.  Stephanie enjoys going to live concerts, cheering for the Hopkins lacrosse team, and taking as many photographs with her digital camera as possible.  In addition to working on Orientation this summer, Stephanie will be doing research downtown at the School of Public Health, giving campus tours, and going to many baseball games at Camden Yards.  She is looking forward to meeting the class of 2012! Direct questions about the website to her.

Britni Lonesome

Move-in Chair

BritniBritni is a rising junior born and raised in the great city of Baltimore.  She attended middle school and high school both within a two mile radius of Johns Hopkins, so she is very familiar with the Hopkins community.  Britni, who majors in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, keeps busy as a member of the Women's Basketball Team and conducting research on particulate drug delivery systems.  When not in the classroom, on the court, or in the lab, she enjoys talking on the phone, hanging out with friends, shopping, and cooking.  This summer Britni looks forward to taking Biochemistry Lab (not really), working with the Orientation Staff, going on road trips, and taking a much needed break from school work.  She also has a strong, but weird desire to become a Guitar Hero and Rock Band master over the summer.  Other than that, Britni can't wait to welcome the class of 2012 to her city!

Meg Rose

Student Advising Chair

Meg Meg is a rising junior majoring in Public Health Studies and Applied Math.  She is from a small town in northern Massachusetts.  On campus, she is an involved member of P.E.E.P.s, a peer health education group, and her sorority, Alpha Phi.  When not in class, you can often find her running or lounging on the beach.  Besides being your student advising chair, this summer she will be keeping busy taking a class, exploring Baltimore, and training for the Baltimore marathon.   She is excited to be working on Orientation and can’t wait to meet the class of 2012!

Chris Warner

Core Programming Chair

ChrisChris Warner was born in Baltimore and raised in nearby Bel Air, MD.  He is a rising senior and Physics major.  This will be his second time on Orientation staff- last year he was the Move-In Chair.  This year, he is the Core Programming Chair.  Chris loves Hopkins Orientation and had a lot of fun last summer.  He is also a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity.  Chris spends his time watching trashy TV shows like Rock of Love, playing intramural sports for his fraternity, and going to concerts.  He is looking forward to this summer and can't wait to meet you all

Tiffany Saavedra

Parents Chair

TiffanyTiffany is a rising junior who hopes to one day become a successful doctor. She is pursing a major in Behavioral Biology and minoring in Entrepreneurship and Management. Coming all the way from Southern California, she can absolutely relate to how hard it can be to adjust to college life. Tiffany is very involved within the JHU and Baltimore Community. She serves as the Volunteer Coordinator for the Baltimore Rescue Mission Clinic, the Director of Marketing in her sorority, Alpha Phi, a research assistant for a Retinitis Pigmentosa Study, and a research assistant for a Monkey Vocalization Study. Although she does have a lot on her plate, Tiffany does still seem to find time to relax and have a life. In her free time, she enjoys playing soccer, singing, and dancing. She looks forward to meeting all of you and hopes you all have a wonderful summer.

Alex King

Logistics Chair

AlexAlex is a rising senior originally from Kansas City, though his family moved to Raleigh, NC during his first year at Hopkins.  He studies Biomedical Engineering and will be continuing his research in medical informatics this summer. Alex is also an actively involved member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity, serving as its President for the past two years. He is also the owner and president of a freelance consulting company, a rock climbing instructor for the Outdoor Pursuits club and has a patent for a device used in open heart surgery. Believe it or not, he knows over 300 kinds of cheeses and managed to tear his ACL playing dodgeball as a sophomore. Alex can't wait to spend the summer in Baltimore and hopes to help make this year's Orientation the best one yet!
