How do I qualify for summer assistance?
The summer 2008 session is considered part of the 2007-2008 academic year. You must be a matriculating undergraduate or graduate student in a degree program to receive aid. In order to qualify for Federal loans, you must enroll for a minimum of six (6) undergraduate credits, or two (2) graduate courses (not for audit) for the summer terms. Graduate students who are not taking (2) graduate courses must be registered for independent research.
What type of aid is available?
There are a limited number of partial need-based summer grants available to undergraduate students who are current need-based grant recipients. To be considered for a partial summer grant, you must submit the JHU Summer Aid Application by March 24, 2008. Notification of receipt of awards will be made by May 16th.
Loans and employment opportunities. You may borrow funds through the Federal Direct Loan Program if you have not borrowed your maximum loan eligibility for the year. The maximum annual loan limits in effect for the 2007-2008 academic year are: $3,500 (freshmen), $4,500 (sophomores), $5,500 (juniors/seniors), and $8,500 (graduates). Parent (PLUS) loans as well as other educational loans for undergraduates are also available to meet the cost for summer courses. Federal Work-Study (FWS) funding is available during the summer for graduate students and for undergraduates participating in Community Service. Non-FWS jobs are also available. How do I apply for summer aid?
You must submit a 2008 JHU Summer Aid Application. The deadline is May 1, 2008 (March 24, 2008 for partial summer grant consideration). You can now APPLY ONLINE.
If you did not apply for Federal aid in the Fall or Spring semesters, you must file a 2007-2008 FAFSA no later then March 15, 2008. Additionally, you must submit a copy of your and/or your parents' 2006 federal tax returns to our office no later then March 24, 2008.
How will students be notified about aid eligibility?
You will be notified of your eligibility via e-mail. Letters will be sent to local addresses or campus mail-boxes (if available).
