COUNSELING SERVICES OFFERED

Individual, couples, and group counseling is available. Severe emotional problems are not a prerequisite for coming to the Counseling Center. Students may avail themselves of counseling services for personal growth and enrichment. Students who come to the Counseling Center for counseling will meet individually with a professional staff member to determine which Center test services may best suit their needs. Individual and couples counseling sessions generally occur once a week and last 50 minutes. The number of sessions per student per year is almost always limited to less than a semester.

In the event that psychotropic medication may be warranted, a Center consulting psychiatrist will evaluate and, if necessary, prescribe for and monitor the student while on medications.

Each semester a variety of counseling groups is offered. Counseling groups might be thematic such as Family Problems or Eating Concerns, or more general, such as Personal Growth Group. Groups usually run for 75 to 90 minutes and meet once a week for anywhere from a few weeks to a semester or longer.
