Career Center Services for Graduate Students

The Career Center serves all full-time students in Engineering and Arts & Sciences (graduate students as well as undergraduates). The purpose of this section of the Career Center's website is to highlight services to which graduate students should pay particular attention (such as the Dossier Service) and to explore issues unique to graduate students. However, the Career Center invites you to explore the entire site and to utilize all of the Career Center's services.

How the Career Center Can Help

We know that graduate students face different issues than undergraduates. As a graduate student, there are so many things to explore: Do you want an academic job or not? As a master’s candidate, do you want to continue on to a PhD or get some work experience? The Career Center is here to support you as you work on these questions.

The Career Center has services ranging from resume and curriculum vitae development to on-campus recruiting. As you begin thinking about what you may want to do with your degree, we can help you explore how your skills, values, interests, and personality fit within your decision-making process. The Career Center has several assessments that have proved useful to students who haven’t yet made a final decision about how they would like to use their degree after graduation and are still researching their options. The Center also has counselors on hand to assist you with any career-related issues that may arise.

Graduate Student Workshop Series

Each semester the Career Center sponsors workshops specifically addressing the needs of graduate students. In the Fall, look for "Writing your CV" and "The Academic Job Search for Graduate Students." In the spring, the Career Center typically conducts two workshops for those seeking to explore opportunities outside academia. Even if you are simply curious to see what's available, be sure to check out this workshops.

Check the Calendar for Upcoming Workshops

If you have suggestions for workshops that could be added to our graduate students series, please contact Chelsea Haring, Assistant Director at charing1@jhu.edu.

Individual Career Counseling

The Career Center also offers practical services for graduate students. Did you know that you can make an appointment to have your resume or CV critiqued? Did you know that you could do a taped mock interview and receive immediate feedback on your interviewing skills?

The Dossier Service

The Career Center offers the Dossier Service for PhD students in Arts & Sciences and Engineering disciplines (with the addition of Master's students in Writing Seminars). This service provices a central location for housing recommendation letters when applying for academic positions. More about the Dossier Service
